You had your party and got your gold watch. You cleaned out your desk, said goodbye to your colleagues, handed in your laptop and left the building for the last time.

You are Now a retiree.

After the first few months of retirement where you might travel, renovate, or clean out the garage, you may find yourself asking,

“Now what?”

This is not surprising. Transitions are challenging.

The transition from 40+ years of work to retirement is especially difficult. For many years, you devoted yourself to your career, and knew what to expect. Now in retirement, there is nothing but time and freedom. This can be exciting and terrifying at the same time.

Where do these feelings come from?

Work gives us structure. It provides a sense of purpose and feelings of achievement. It also gives us social interaction every day. It can become our identity.

When we retire, we lose many of these things.

The fact that people feel apprehensive about retiring is no surprise.

I am Anne Griffin, a Retirement Lifestyle Coach, who works with people just like you to develop a plan to make the transition from work to retirement easier and to set you up for a retirement that is exciting, and meaningful.
